The first of my “Amuse bouche” series, to be seen at Aarhus Gallery’s EAT show, opening at 5 p.m. on February 7th, 2014.
When invited to be in this show with the working title of “Food,” I was a bit anxious. In what seems like a lifetime ago, I had been a food illustrator. As with just about everything I do, it was detail oriented work. I am still attracted to that – the labor intensive love of technique and craft – but I desire to get away from the realistic. For food in particular, that would be a challenge for me, and so I struggled to find some way in to the idea of food without giving it to you literally upon a plate.
I hadn’t thought of it until now, but my mother used the word “delicious” as an adjective for any object she desired.
